2008 NASCAR Predictions

Collectible Spotlight - Dale Earnhardt Daytona Crash Car - Updated August 2008

In November 2004, we discussed the Action Performance release of the Dale Earnhardt Crash Car Elite. In particular, we hypothesized whether the Crash Car Elite release would effect the market value of the original ARC Crash Car released in 1999. This column assesses the value of these cars over the past 4 years.

Become a Diecast Registry member now to see the most current market values and trend charts for this, and other diecast cars.

08/08 Analysis: As you can see below, the market value for the Standard ARC Crash Car continues to drop. $384 in 2004, $312 in 2006, and now is down to $261 in 2008. The Dale Earnhardt Elite crash car diecast on the other hand continues to increase in value.

03/06 Analysis: As you can see below, the market value for the Standard ARC Crash Car has continued to drop was ~ $312, while the Elite Crash Car market value is increasing; now to ~$210. While we are not surprised that the value of the Elite car has continued to increase, we must admit that we are surprised to see the continuing drop in the market value of the Standard ARC car. The charts below reflect online sales data through 3/14/06. The Diecast Registry Price Guide will allow you to continue to track the market values of these and other diecast diecast cars on a weekly basis. 11/04 Analysis: As you can see below, in November 2004 the Standard ARC Crash Car brought a lofty ~$347 while the market value for the Elite Crash Car was ~ $134. Most notably, the trend chart below (on the left) shows that the value of the Standard ARC car had been steadily declining since February.

11/04 Conclusion: The steady, consistent decline in value of the Standard ARC car violates statistical probability rules, suggesting the presence of an assignable cause. The cause? In our opinion, you need not look any further than the release of the Elite version. We suspect that the February rumors of the Elite release is the cause for the decline in the market value of the Standard ARC car.

11/04 Prediction: Basic supply and demand laws suggest that, with the Elite release increasing the supply of crash cars, it is unlikely that the value of the Standard ARC car will again surpass the $500 barrier in the near future. As for the Elite, it is interesting to see that, after a poor performance following its release, its value has actually increased over the past few months. We expect this trend to level-off over the winter and then to continue increasing once again with the start of the 2005 Nextel Cup season
